oly Pascha
celebrated by
Orthodox church
The Orthodox Community of
Ft. Hood Tex. joyfully and
prayerfully celebrated Holy
Week and the Holy Pascha.
With great anticipation the
com unity began its il-
grimage with the beginning of
Great Lent and the forty days
dedicated towards renewal and
rededication to God.
The Orthodox community
here is pastored by Chaplain
(CPT) Jerry Hamperzonian a
priest of the Orthodox Church
of America. Hamperzonian
states: “I find my ministry as
an Orthodox priest in the Army
both challenging and reward-
ing.” The Orthodox attendance
at Sunday services average
between 30 50 people and at
the Feast of all Feasts Pascha
almost one hundred Orthodox
faithful participated in the
Ressurection liturgy. The con-
gregation consists of various
nationalities of the Orthodox
world. Those of Greek extrac-
tion by far make up the largest
percentage but also in atten-

in the E as
Liturgy we had the traditional
“Agape meal” served by the
ladies of the parish. Everyone
was asked to bring along a dish
of their choice and the table of
food reflected the diverse back-
grounds that make up the con-
gregation. Present was ever-
ything from Ukranian Kabasa
(Sausage) to Armenian Pilaf

Turkey and Ham. Present in
the congregation during the
services were many visitors of
a and Ro ma
Catholic background.
As the wee hours of the
morning approached people
started to leave the meal and
took with them their candles
